About Microbiology Department

Goal The goal of teaching Microbiology is to provide understanding of the natural history of infectious diseases in order to deal with the etiology, pathogenesis, pathogenicity, laboratory diagnosis, treatment, control and prevention of these infections and infectious diseases. Objectives At the end of the course the student shall be able to,
  • State the etiology, pathogenesis and methods of laboratory diagnosis and apply that knowledge in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control of communicable diseases caused by microorganisms.
  • Understand the immunological mechanisms associated with important infectious diseases.
  • Plan and interpret laboratory investigations for diagnosis of infectious diseases and correlate the clinical manifestations with the etiological agent.
  • Understand the measures for prevention and control of Hospital associated infections and use of the different antimicrobial agents including antibiotics to use judiciously and prevent misuse, (prescribing attitude).
